Basically I would give any show a chance that has Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant in it. And true to form, Barrymore is as charming as ever as a suburban wife, real estate agent and mom turned cannibal zombie from a yet unknown bat or monkey virus!
Read MoreWith the Netflix flagship series 'House of Cards' in it's 4th season, I was just a bit worried that all of the drama and intrigue was played out. In fact, Season 3 was by far the weakest of the seasons and that in itself was cause for concern.
Read More'Catastrophe', a new series on Amazon Prime, is a great example that there are still great romantic comedies being made and being made on TV none the less! Written by and starring BOTH Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan,
Read MoreBefore I dive right into today's review from Netflix, I wanted to take a brief moment to explain how this will work. As you may (or may not) know, the various streaming services (Netflix, Amazon & Hulu)
Read MoreYou may have noticed by now that I have dropped the DVD Reviews page in favor of a Streaming Reviews page. DVDs and even Blu-ray is taking a back seat to the many streaming services out there today. I will try to focus on them all, but to be very honest, I only subscribe to Amazon Prime and Netflix. I have tried Hulu, I just can't find enough reason to stick with it at this point. In the coming days,
Read MoreSkipped a week, one because I was a bit swamped and two, well, the releases lately have been a bit mundane and rotten. Even this week the pickings are pretty slim; but maybe we can find a winner or two...
Read MoreWell, lots of titles this week, and the good news, there are several direct to DVD releases that more than make up for the horrid theater releases. That shows you just how much the studios cater to the masses that constantly crave for mindless explosions and ignore solid content.
Read MoreIt's a holiday week, so I am a day behind! Just not catching breaks lately! Luckily, only a few movies released as we are into Summer Blockbuster season! DVDs tend to get put on the back burner...
Read MoreI am back!!! Back to updating the site and back to helping you with your movie watching decisions! Or at least I can hopefully lend a helping critical eye to your selections! So let's jump right back into it shall we? And in case your forgot, just click on the titles to view the trailer!
Read MoreIt's a good week for DVDs this week! So sit back and heat up the BluRay and enjoy some very fine films hitting Redbox and the store!!
'Life of Pi' - I finally think Ang Lee can be forgiven 'Hulk' as with 'Life of Pi' he has produced a stunning masterpiece that is not only a treat for the eyes, but one for the soul! Proving that an artistic film can in fact be a blockbuster
Read MoreSo with most of the Oscar winners still in theaters, the pickings for DVD releases is mighty slim, with the exception of two of them!
'Wreck-it Ralph!' - Disney does it again with 'Wreck-It Ralph' - the newest entry in the animation hit factory that is Pixar! While not as strong as previous Pixar films, 'Wreck-It Ralph' offers plenty to keep the kiddies entertained while throwing a few bones to the odd adult. How can you not like a movie that resurrects 'Qbert'?
Read MoreIt's a light week coming off of the Oscars with really only 1 DVD worth trying out! But, just in case, here are the reviews!
'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2': Unless you are a 'Twihead', you probably will only modestly enjoy this fifth and final entry in this blockbuster series. Pattinson and Stewart still can't act; but as just a reason to escape from the snow and ice, I guess it's ok!
Read MoreIt's only a few days until the Oscar telecast and it is only fitting that the Best Picture winner is released today! Speaking of Oscars, did you enter the 'Outguess Bob's Oscar Picks' contest yet? Better hurry! The selection process closes at 6:00 PM CST Sunday!!
'Argo' - I am righting a wrong here today; in my Top 10 Films of the Year list, I placed 'Argo' behind 'Zero Dark Thirty'. Perhaps that was more of a timing issue than anything else,
Read MoreWell, a Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! The best movie this week is actually pretty romantic and in another post, I will list my Top 10 Romance Movies to help set you up for a winning evening! By the way - make sure you click through the Redbox links, as my readers - you'll get special deals!
'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' - First time director Stephen Chbosky adapts his own novel of teenage coming of age in the very powerful and well acted 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'. It's the film almost no one has seen, but it is a film that everyone should see. Heartfelt, funny, sweet, romantic, brave;
Read MoreOnly 1 good release this week!
'Flight' - Denzel Washington is back in rare form in Robert Zemeckis's 'Flight', a truly nail biting, harrowing character case study of one man's struggle and descent into addiction. After spending nearly the last ten years with animation, Zemeckis is back to live action with a finely crafted morality play that, for the most part, engages the viewer from start to finish. Much of that credit can be given to Washington, who after spending the last few films as an action hero, is back to flexing his dramatic muscles in what will surely be a Oscar nominated performance.
Read MoreWell, so I combined last week with this week, which is ok I think as only 2 DVDs were released last week! So back to the grind and the new releases for this week!
'Paranormal Activity 4' - The only thing frightening about this is the fact it got made in the first place. This tired and worn out premise needs to be put to bed. Better to watch the trailer than waste money on the DVD.
Read MoreJust a handful of DVDs this week; not really that much to write about them as they are something of a sorry crop - but I will do my best!
'Taken 2' - Liam Neeson is back as ex-CIA operative Bryan Mills who's particular skill set, in this case, is making a terrible movie. Sloppy, lazy, tired and worn; Neeson should have said no to this sequel. Made my list of Worst Movies of 2012 and for very good reason! I still can't believe they actually wrote in the script to have the daughter lob grenades off of the rooftop to lead her father to her. Geez.
Read MoreWell, as awards season begins to ramp up (The Golden Globes and People's Choice are coming up), this is a perfect time to catch some of the nominees on DVD or BluRay! Unfortunately, none of the nominees are available this week! But there are a few good ones!
'Dredd' - Usually remakes of bad 80's films are just as bad as bad as the original (see 'Red Dawn'); but this remake actually works! Stylistic, inventive, full of self-satire and humor as well as bombastic B-movie violence help make 'Dredd' a very watchable film. The original theater 3D was pretty impressive,
Read MoreWhat better way to ring in 2013 than with some newly released DVDs! There are a whole slew of them this week with only oine of them a must see! Let's get to it!
'Cosmopolis' - Director David Cronenberg is a love or hate him type of filmmaker. He can often make fantastic films that are thought provoking and complex. Films like 'A Dangerous Method', 'A History of Violence' and 'Eastern Promises' have all elevated Cronenberg to the elite status he deserves. Then he makes the very claustrophobic and poorly cast 'Cosmopolis',
