DVD Releases for Week of 1/29/2013
Well, so I combined last week with this week, which is ok I think as only 2 DVDs were released last week! So back to the grind and the new releases for this week!
'Paranormal Activity 4' - The only thing frightening about this is the fact it got made in the first place. This tired and worn out premise needs to be put to bed. Better to watch the trailer than waste money on the DVD.
'Seven Psychopaths' - With an all star cast and one of the most original scripts since 'Pulp Fiction'. 'Seven Psychopaths' proves to be a wonderful mix of Hollywood commentary, human commentary and just plain gleeful violence! A must see and well worth shelling out $1.20 at your local Redbox!
'Hotel Transylvania' - If you are looking to occupy the kids, this is a perfect DVD for a cold, wintry evening while you go upstairs and watch something more interesting!
'The Cold Light of Day' - A complete bomb despite solid performances from Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis. However, not even their star power can bring a low rent, awful script above anything aside from mediocre.
'The Awakening' - A decent old fashioned ghost story that is just a bit overdrawn but buoyed by wonderful performances from Rebecca Hall and Imelda Stauton. Not a bad use of $1.20 at your local Redbox; good popcorn fare for sure!
'The Imposter' - A thrilling true crime drama/documentary that will leave you on the edge of your seat the entire time. To tell any more would be giving away too much and that in itself would be a crime! Well worth the rental, this fascinating narrative should be near the top of your must rent list!
'End of Watch' - A riveting, intense portrayal of the day in the life of a pair LAPD cops energetically portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. Despite most of it's formulaic themes and the over use of hand-held cameras, actors Gyllenhaal and Pena deliver top notch performances that raise the level of buddy cop films.
