'Master of None' is masterfully funny!

Before I dive right into today's review from Netflix, I wanted to take a brief moment to explain how this will work.  As you may (or may not) know, the various streaming services (Netflix, Amazon & Hulu) release their original content in an entire series blast! This can either make for a very long night or a very short one depending on the quality of the show.  Thus, rather than rating each by number of stars as I do for movies, I will rate them to be 'Binge Worthy' or not. Meaning, if it is 'Binge Worthy', it will be a show that you just can't stop watching until the end of the very last episode!

Today, I'll start with the very funny and completely relevant 'Master of None', the brainchild of creator Aziz Ansari (who you may know from 'Parks and Recreation' or his HBO stand-up).  'Master of None' is a very intelligent comedy skewing the foibles of today's thirtysomethings, life in the city, race and sex.  Ansari channels his best Woody Allen as Dev, a thirtysomething struggling actor living in New York and trying to figure out what he wants out of life.

The dialogue is fresh and Ansari is charming as well as witty. It's clear from the stories, over the course of 10 episodes, that Ansari & co-writer/creator Alan Yang have a firm grasp on the need of this current generation to have something more than just fun. With spot on insights from the etiquette of dating to texting to even holding a job, Ansari dives deep and often with hilarious conclusions that are very insightful.  You know you are in for a wild ride when Ansari and the woman he just slept with debate the merits of UberX or Uber Black to take to the drug store to pick up the 'Plan B' morning after pill. This is in the very first episode mind you.

Filled with full characters, thought provoking humor and charm, 'Master of None' is a very 'Binge Worthy' show that you might find yourself watching again and again. "Master of None' may have been snubbed at the Golden Globes (only 1 nomination), but watch for Ansari's series to shine as it moves forward. This is by far one of the best comedic series streaming today.
