'Catastrophe' - The modern romantic comedy is alive & well!

'Catastrophe', a new series on Amazon Prime, is a great example that there are still great romantic comedies being made and being made on TV none the less!  Written by and starring BOTH Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan, 'Catastrophe' is brilliant as a laugh out loud yet smartly sweet series that is very often rare these days in movies let alone television. It's another reason why the streaming services are doing so well; their ability to take a chance on content that is a winner. This is a show that would never see the light of day on standard TV, vulgarity (hilarious as it is) aside, it is just too smart to land on a network.

Rob Delaney (co-writer & co-creator) is Rob, an American businessman in London trying to set up a new branch office for his advertising firm; during his stay he meets the very lovely Sharon (played by co-writer & co-creator Sharon Horgan) and the two have instant chemistry.  A non-stop sexual weekend encounter results in a surprise pregnancy, well, not so much a surprise as Sharon notes they only used a condom twice over the course of the weekend!

This 6 episode series works well as the two leads share a fantastic chemistry, the dialogue is sharp, witty and very real.  While it can often be just a little crass in its humor, Rob & Sharon pull it off with a sweetness that simply makes it ok.  Even more sweet, we get to watch these two strangers meet, have all the hot passion and chemistry up front, then watch it blossom into a very real romance.  With outrageous comedy that you'll find yourself laughing out loud to, to delightfully sweet moments that have you smiling from ear to ear, 'Catastrophe' is a very Binge Worthy series that has me looking forward to Season 2!
