DVD Releases for Week of 2/12/2013

Well, a Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! The best movie this week is actually pretty romantic and in another post, I will list my Top 10 Romance Movies to help set you up for a winning evening! By the way - make sure you click through the Redbox links, as my readers - you'll get special deals!

'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' - First time director Stephen Chbosky adapts his own novel of teenage coming of age in the very powerful and well acted 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'. It's the film almost no one has seen, but it is a film that everyone should see.  Heartfelt, funny, sweet, romantic, brave; it will take you back. It is one of the best films of 2012 and deserves a wider audience! Run to Redbox tonight and grab it!

'The Man With The Iron Fists' - At a little over an hour and a half, 'The Man With The Iron Fists' is exactly a little over a hour and 29 minutes too long! Written, directed and starring rapper turned actor Rza...well lets just say that I hope his day job as a rapper is more secure. The writing was childish as best, his direction was canned and his acting, well what can I say - terrible. If you are really bored, it might be worth the $1.20 at Redbox. But don't say I didn't warn you!

'Bully' - Less than a checklist for getting rid of bullying and more of a compelling study of a society that has ignored the tragic consequences of bullying for too long. This is a smart, powerful and compassionate look at the effects of bullying on not only the victims, but the family of the victims; the bully is not just one person but the system that leaves them run rampant and ignores the victims. This is a must see by the entire family and should be required viewing in our schools.

'Silent Hill: Revelation 3D' - Appropriate title for a film that is silent on scares, silent on characters and silent on anything possibly good that could make this worth even the cost of a rental. Ugh.

'The Sessions' - Based on the autobiographical papers of journalist and poet Mark O'Brien, 'The Sessions' is a touching story of one man's physical and emotional triumph. Finally a movie that tackles sexuality in an adult and touching manner. 'The Sessions' is also a triumph in acting, with Helen Hunt, John Hawkes and William H Macy all giving Oscar worthy performances. 'The Sessions' is a triumph of the human spirit and our ability to love, a must add to your Redbox list!

'Robot & Frank' - Frank Langella is brilliant in this indie film about the not so distant future and the condition of aging! Langella is a retired cat burglar living out his life on his own when his children decide he can't be alone. With a nursing home not an option, they supply him with a robotic companion. It's a funny, warm and touching story about friendship and relationships that will leave you smiling until the end. Not your typical science fiction tale!
