'House of Cards: Season 4' - Political Drama At Its Finest!

With the Netflix flagship series 'House of Cards' in it's 4th season, I was just a bit worried that all of the drama and intrigue was played out. In fact, Season 3 was by far the weakest of the seasons and that in itself was cause for concern. Thankfully, writer/creator Beau Willimon turns the political heat up to a full white hot burning flame.

'House of Card' always had a strong cynical view of politicians and Washington. Francis Underwood (the brilliant Kevin Spacey) optimized everything that was wrong with politicians and Washington.  It is the Frank Underwoods of Washington that have lead to the creation of Donald Trump; in Season 4, Willimon is keenly aware of this and even more aware of the rampant duplicity in both political parties.

After taking over the Presidency in a political coup at the end of Season 3, Underwood is now fighting to get elected into a position he stole. Willimon smartly ramps up the drama by involving Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) more this season as the political wife with aspirations of her own; and quite willing to do just about anything to achieve those aspirations. Sound familiar?  As always, Robin Wright is fantastic in the role, this is truly a part she was born to play.  The writing this season is spot on, the new cast including such power-houses as Neve Campbell, Cicely Tyson and Ellen Burstyn, deliver the script with power.  The production is film quality and unlike anything on TV today.

While 'House of Cards' may have stumbled a little in Season 3, Season 4 is more than making up for it. The only other drama more intriguing than the political thrills in 'House of Cards' is the real life drama of the current election cycle.  I dare you not to binge on 'House of Cards' in a single night! Don't worry if you do, it stands up to repeated viewings! A truly Binge Worthy show!
