New Page!
You may have noticed by now that I have dropped the DVD Reviews page in favor of a Streaming Reviews page. DVDs and even Blu-ray is taking a back seat to the many streaming services out there today. I will try to focus on them all, but to be very honest, I only subscribe to Amazon Prime and Netflix. I have tried Hulu, I just can't find enough reason to stick with it at this point. In the coming days, I am going to try and provide brief overviews & reviews on the content these providers have; I am quite sure, most of my readers already have one or both of these services. But just in case, here is a brief run down of each:
Netflix
Netflix is an on-demand provider of hundreds of popular television shows (they are most know for this), original content (the current leader in original content) and movies that you can stream. "Streaming" means that you can watch the movie or TV show without having to fully download before you can watch it. With TV/Cable/Satellite, you have to wait for your show to air – or you may have to record it if you know you’ll miss it – but with Netflix, you’re able watch your favorite shows and movies anytime, anywhere.
Netflix is what I like to call agnostic; it doesn't care what 'platform' you use. In otherwords, you can use AppleTV, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Google Chromecast, Google Nexus, Amazon Fire TV, a Smart TV, a PC/Mac/Laptop and just about ANY Smart Phone (if you have a large enough data plan).
With Netflix, you can watch your favorite shows anytime or anywhere that you want them. Netflix also has some of the most compelling original shows out there. Shows that have not only won critical acclaim, but awards as well, including several Golden Globes & Emmys. Recently, Netflix has secured the rights to produce original Marvel Comics content that includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones and more. This content will dovetail into the Marvel cinematic universe in the new few years. Quite an amazing feat for a company that is not tied to a major network.
Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime is very much like Netflix other than it is not so as agnostic as Netflix. For example, you cannot stream your Amazon Prime account on AppleTV (a mistake I believe). Like Netflix, Amazon Prime also has a growing library of original content that is gaining critical as well as awards acclaim.
Both services are worth the cost of subscription with Amazon Prime having the additional benefit of free shipping with all of your Amazon orders (nearly all). A lot has been said for 'cutting the cord' as these services expand; while I haven't taken the leap yet - I am considering more and more.
So - future posts will include reviews on much of the content that is available with both services! Have a request? Let me know, chances are I have checked it out or I want to!
