DVD Releases for Week of 8/27/2012

It's a slow week for DVDs this week (which is lucky for me) and it'ws also a slow week for GOOD DVDs.

'Think Like A Man' - Based on the best seller from comedian Steve Harvey this romantic comedy follows the interconnected love lives of four men. It would have been more aptly titled 'Think A Man Is A Idiot'; the movie is only slightly elevated by the above average performances of the cast. Not a bad Redbox rental for a date night I guess. At worst it is a standard romantic comedy that is slightly better than 'New Year's Eve' as an example.

'Battleship' - Well, if you like going to the movies to simply just watch things explode, 'Battleship' is the film for you. As far as a review - it blows up real good. Yeah - that's all I got for this piece of substandard garbage,

'The Lucky One' - Based on the bestseller from Nicolas Sparks, 'The Lucky One' follows the tale of a returning soldier who goes off to find the person in a picture that he believes saved his life. While somewhat standard fare for Nicolas Sparks, the story is charming, heartfelt and a perfect date night movie. While it isn't filled with Oscar winning material, it does prove that Zack Efron is a bit more than a High School Musical fad.

'The Pirates! Band of Misfits' - From the guys who bought us the hilarious 'Wallace and Gromit' comes a tale of a wayward pirate (Hugh Grant) searching for the notoriety he deserves. While not as funny as the usual Aardman production, 'The Pirares' is a great way to cool off on a humid stormy night with the kids in tow! Plenty of inside jokes for the adults and plenty of toilet humor for the kids!
