DVD Releases for Week of 7/23/2012
A light week with DVD Releases - it seems no one wants to compete with the juggernaut that is 'The Dark Knight Rises'!
'Silent House' - Elizabeth Olsen (younger sister of the Olsen Twins) is the saving grace for this real time, continuous shot fright fest bought to you by the directors of 'Open Water'. Olsen is fantastic here, displaying more talent than her two sisters ever have as the young woman, Sarah, who finds herself sealed inside a secluded lake house, trapped by an unknown terror. What could have been a one shot gimmick, actually turns into a very suspenseful and terrifying movie, mostly due to Olsen's terrific performance. Olsen first impressed me with her debut starring role in last falls 'Martha Marcy May Marlene'; here in 'Silent House', she has proven that she is not a one hit wonder.
'The Deep Blue Sea' - The beautiful and mesmerizing Rachel Weisz is the wife of a British judge who finds herself caught in a passionate love affair with a Royal Air force pilot. Weisz gives a heartbreaking performance as a woman who implodes her life in her struggle to fill the passionless void that is her marriage. Beautifully filmed, with stunning performances from the entire cast, this gut wrenching drama is a must view!
'Meeting Evil' - I have meant evil and it is director Chris Fisher for this piece of over-directed, poorly written garbage. There is a reason why movie go directly to DVD. You have been warned.
