DVD Releases for Week of 6/19/2012

I am a week behind, so I will list this week's first and then last weeks! Not a lot of good releases, but a few good enough for a Redbox $1.20 rental!

'Project X' - From Todd Phillips, a pretty predictable and mostly unoriginal teen coming of age party movie. It tires too hard to be over the top and the laughs are mostly forced. There are a few bright moments in this mess and it just might be a decent way to spend $1.20 and 87 minutes of your life. Be warned, there is plenty of raunchy, just for the sake of raunchy.

'Wanderlust' - Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston are pitch perfect in the raucous adult comedy from David Wain! Paul Rudd is one of the few nice guys that can do nice guys well and since she is not opposite Adam Sandler, Aniston is pretty funny as the wife of Rudd who is displaced from the big city to the country. The fish out of water story has never been funnier as nearly every moment in this film shines. Worth a couple of viewings just to catch the stuff you missed while laughing!

'Big Miracle' - John Krasinski and Drew Barrymore bring the true story of trapped whales to the big screen. Heartfelt, touching and sometimes just a bit too sappy; this film is perfect family entertainment. Barrymore and Kransinski are cast well and bring a nice touch to what could have been a standard Lifetime movie.

'Jeff, Who Lives At Home' - Jason Segal (Jeff) and Ed Helms (Jeff's brother Pat) are quickly becoming my favorite comedic movie stars. each just exudes vulnerability and is simply just one of us. Jeff is searching for the meaning of life while on the way to the hardware store with very funny consequences. Helms and Segal play well off of each other. Not widely scene as it was in limited release, this is a gem worth renting!

'Seeking Justice' - Nicolas Cage continues to make anything that is presented to him in this piece of crap about a husband who is out to avenge the attack of his wife.

'Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows' - Robert Downey Jr. can not seem to make a bad movie lately, even when it is a part of the Sherlock Holmes series. He is such a pleasure to watch, he brings all of his material to life. By far, Holmes 2 is a better movie than the first. Director Guy Ritchie offers some very visually stunning action sequences that are well worth the price of the rental.

'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' - Wait - is this the same review as 'Seeking Justice'? Yes, it is. Another Nick Cage cash grab. Crap.

'Tyler Perry's Good Deeds' - While it may be a good deed, it's an awful movie. Seemingly, Tyler Perry needs to brand all of his movies by including his name in the title.

'A Little Bit of Heaven' -  A whole lot of crap is what this is. Kate Hudson needs new managment, the once talented actress hasn't done anything decent since 'Almost Famous' and that was in 2000!
