New DVD Releases - 3/14/2012

Ok - here are the DVD release for Tuesday 3/14/2012 - each will be followed by a very brief review.

  • 'Tin Tin' - Steven Spielberg released two movies during the same time period, a modern feat for a director of his caliber, he is a very busy man. This week, 'Tin Tin' makes its way to BluRay and DVD. Based on the hugely popular comic book series, 'Tin Tin' follows the adventures of a young reporter in pursuit of the ultimate story. The animation is amazing and the film itself is a cross between 'Indiana Jones' and 'Annie', but without the music. While this did not do well in theaters (animation overload I suspect) it is well worth the trip to Redbox!
  • 'The Descendants' - Director Alexander Payne ('Sideways') is back with a very moving and human story of love, tragedy and the modern family. George Clooney gives an outstanding performance as Matt, a husband dealing with the infidelity of his comatose wife while trying to reconnect with his children.
  • 'Happy Feet Two' - A passable sequel to the original 'Happy Feet'; with the original cast retruning and a few new voices, 'Happy Feet Two' will capture the hearts of the kids, but leave adults wanting for more. As with the first, the music is excellent but the script needed a little more work.
  • 'The Three Musketeers' - Ok, this story has been done countless times, now you can add done in 3D to the mix. Leave this one on the shelf though. Yawn!
  • 'My Week With Marilyn' - An amazing film based on the filming of 'The Prince and the Showgirl', tells the true story of assistant Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne) and his relationship with the very tortured Marilyn Monroe played very convincingly by Michelle Williams. One of my top ten for 2011, this is a film that deserves a viewing!
  • 'Melancholia' - Kirsten Dunst is Justine and faced with the pending destruction of Earth as the planet Melancholia bears down. While this may sound like another SciFi disaster flick, it is not. It is a telling tale of marriage, relationships, hope (both lost and found) and the unique nature of the human spirit.
