DVD Releases for Week of 11/06/2012
It's a big blockbuster release week this Election Tuesday! Well, it was almost a blockbuster I guess!
'The Amazing Spiderman' - Why remake a movie that was, arguably, better than the remake? To be honest, I am not sure; but with sure handed direction and a stellar cast; 'The Amazing Spiderman' was watchable if not a solid effort to reboot the Spiderman franchise. I would have preferred they have given us something new rather than nearly the same movie as 2002; that being said, Andrew Garfield is a worthy successor to Toby Maguire as Peter Parker/Spiderman. Not really reinventing the mythology as fleshing it out more, 'The Amazing Spiderman' is a hopeful restart to the franchise.
'Arthur Christmas' - Aardman Animations, the nuts that are responsible for the hilarious 'Wallace and Gromit' series, go all Christmas on us with this very funny and heart warming holiday tale. With updated Christmas myths, a high tech Santa (kids will love this) is helped through Christmas by the loveable Arthur. Witty, intelligent and a perfect holiday treat that will be a classic, 'Arthur Christmas' is a must add to the holiday list of movies right next to 'Christmas Vacation' and 'A Christmas Story'!
'Your Sister's Sister' - Emily Blunt, who can make a brown bag shine, stars in this romantic comedy about the complications of relationships and unrequited love. One year after his brother's death, Jack (Mark Duplass) is still struggling; at the insistence of his best friend, Iris (Blunt) he heads to Iris's family cabin in the woods. What Iris doesn't realize however is that her sister Hannah (Rosemarie Dewitt) is there as well, recovering from the end of a 7 year relationship. After Hannah and Jack get to know each other over Tequila shots, Iris drops in unexpectedly and the complications arise. With naturally flowing dialogue, fine performances and a story from the heart, this film hits home.
'The Pact' - The only pact you should make with this one is to leave it on the shelf! Illogical and not at all scary, this lame attempt at horror is only frightening because it got made in the first place!
