DVD Releases for Week of 10/30/2012

Well - it's Halloween week; so I guess they decided to limit the releases because we are all renting horror movies! Not much going on this week - but they are gems!

'The Campaign' - Will Ferrell and Zack Galifanakis are political rivals in this crude political satire that is sometimes funny but never very smart. Will Ferrell's track record is roughly every other movie being good. As 'Anchorman 2' will be out soon, you can almost forgive him for avoiding some of the smart political humor he was famous for on SNL and instead revert to crude, easy laughs (well not always so easy, but it does have it's moments). Not a bad rental while watching the election returns next week.

'Ruby Sparks' - Paul Dano (one of the most underrated actors out there) is Calvin, a struggling writer who wrote a fantastic novel once and has never been able to follow it up. Until one day when he dreams of the character Ruby Sparks and incredibly finds her sitting on his couch. A wonderful, charming film about the wonders of magic and the power of love, 'Ruby Sparks' turns the romantic comedy genre on it's ear. Well worth the rental on a brisk fall evening!

'Safety Not Guaranteed' - Three cynical Seattle magazine employees embark on a mission to investigate a store clerk who thinks he has solved the mystery of time travel. Unconventional, smart and often hilarious, 'Safety Not Guarenteed' is one of the more intelligent comedies to come out in some time. Never indulging the audience but never talking down to them either, it succeeds where others have failed. A film that ultimately is full of heart and joy!
